We Found a Diamond in the Rough

When you eat as many burgers as we do you occasionally find a diamond. A place so out of the way, so nondescript, so small that you would never expect to find a really good burger. Particularly at a very economical price.

Last night we found such a place. Burger Bueno! It’s in a little strip center just north of LBJ on Coit Road. Burger Bueno was not on anyone’s top ten list – one of our faithful readers recommended a visit. We’re glad he did.

Funky little place with a wide variety of sandwiches but their specialty is the burger. They have 12 on the menu. Everything from your basic, no frills burger to the classic Mushroom Swiss to an exotic Hawaiian Barbeque Burger. All start with a whopping  half pound fresh patty. We asked for medium rare and got a perfectly seared patty on a soft bun. It’s at least a two napkin treat. Fries were average. Deb liked the fried okra and the fried jalapeños were crispy and not too flaming hot.

We have Burger Bueno in two categories. It will compete favorably in the Blue Division and will be a front runner in our unofficial “Best Value Burger” group. Six of the burgers are $5.99 or less, another four are $6.99. The “Ultimate Cheese Burger” comes in at $8.29 with everything they can find thrown on – Half pounder topped with triple cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, bacon, avocado, sautéed onion, mushrooms and jalapeños. That bad boy is not for the rookies – come hungry.

Tricia’s enjoying the Avocado Cheese Burger.

Give it a try. You’ll be glad you did.
